I was in second grade and my Uncle was in town for business. He was a reporter for KABC TV in Los Angeles. It was a quick visit, but he had promised to show me some magic. Well, it was a very quick trip and in a blink of an eye we were waiting with him at Logan Airport.
He popped into gift shop and emerged with a cheap deck of plastic playing cards. They had a collage of Boston attractions for a back design. In the few minutes we had my Uncle taught me a few simple tricks. I was hooked. There was no going back now, magic was in my blood.
Twenty five years of practice, performing and study. Now I’m taking that experience and passion and forging it into an imaginary world. The world of the Conjurers. Welcome to the Conjurian.
The webcomic will tell the tales in and around this elusive world of magicians. It will follow many characters that appear in the Novel. More of a causal meandering through their mythology. Laced through all the stories is one binding truth: Magic is real.
Alex and Emma live a sheltered life in the expansive mansion of their Uncle. When he is killed by an unearthly beast, the children escape into the secret realm of magicians: the Conjurian.
Created by Dedi, the first magician to the Pharaohs, the Conjurian was meant to be a sanctuary paradise for persecuted conjurers. The millennia have transformed it into a divided and, some would argue, a dying world. With Pimawa, a humanoid rabbit as their guide, brother and sister scour the dazzling world brimming with secrets and civil unrest. Emma, swept away by a gang of young magicians, quickly finds this alien world is a far cry from her idealized vision of magic. Alex and Pimawa, suspected as gang members, are arrested.
With help from new friends, Alex and Pimawa escape and search for Emma. Meanwhile, the Shadow Conjurer’s forces seize control of the Conjurian. Emma’s band of street hooligans and Alex’s ragtag following of outcasts unite against the Shadow Conjurer’s army.
Close to defeat, Alex and Emma embark on an impossible journey across the Sea of Dedi to face the Shadow Conjurer and discover the true fate of their uncle and their parents.
The comic will launch later this year. The stories follow the lives of the supporting cast from the novel and how they arrived in the Conjurian.
